3rd June 2017 vs T&PV CC
Dalrymple Claims Derby Crown For Haddy
Saturday saw the first ever league meeting of Haddington Cricket Club and the newly formed Tranent & Preston Village CC. Haddington had never faced the predecessor Tranent CC during the latter’s meteoric rise through the divisions, with Haddington remaining Division 3 occupants for close to a decade now.
With the match switched to Meadowmill to avoid clashing with other users of the Neilson Park facilities, T&PV had home advantage. Winning the toss, they inserted Haddington and quickly had them 30-3, with Shaikh felling Cruickshank and the dangerous Chris Sale. From then on it was one-way traffic as Tom Dalrymple and Peter Borrowman constructed a magnificent 150 run partnership to take the total to 189 from 40 overs. Borrowman’s 45 not out a vital second fiddle, as Dalrymple stole the show and carried his bat through the innings for 113 unbeaten with the T&PV change bowlers suffering. It was his first hundred for the club, as he continues to blossom as a batsman following some time playing in Australia.
In reply, the home side got away briskly thanks to King & Bhadrachala. However, captain Scott Logan rotated his bowlers well and took pace off the ball as Cruickshank and debutant James Cardwell-Moore shared the first four wickets between them. With Jamie Perriam providing some fiery seam bowling to prise out Nicholson, it was up to Haran to carry the fight from the middle order - though he unfortunately had to retire hurt. Tranent & Preston Village battled well to take the game deep, but in the end Borrowman & Dalrymple joined forces again to clean up the tail and take victory for Haddington by 26 runs, lifting them to 4th in the league in the process. Remarkably there were seven different catchers in the second innings, with Mr Chalmers again proving impenetrable in the field.
It is a vital win in the circumstances with matches against the two unbeaten leading sides in the league to come (Westquarter & Redding away, followed by Edinburgh CC at home on the 17th).
Tranent & Preston Village have a tough game against Edinburgh CC this weekend, but should find the trip to struggling Linlithgow on the 17th more to their liking.
